Just a  week after he has triumphed at Paris-Roubaix. Gimondi finished ahead of Willy Planckaert and Rik van Looy. It was his first Paris-Bruxelles victory. It was the last edition when the race was held in April. After a six-year hiatus, the next edition was held in September 1973.
