According to the jury, Georges Speicher won the race. But when the photographs of the finish were published, it became clear, Romain Maes crossed the line first.
It was Duclos-Lassale second consecutive triumph at Paris-Roubaix. He is the oldest winner of the race (38 years, 7 months and 17 days)
He won the race 3 times, in 3 consecutive years (1909, 1910, 1911).
He was the part of the early break of a 13-man group. They escaped when it was still 222 km left. Only Demol and the second-placed Thomas Wegmuller could ride home
The king of Mont Ventoux was a successful classic rider. He has won four of the five Monuments: Milano-Sanremo, and Giro di Lombardia (1951), Ronde van Vlaanderen (1955) and Paris-Roubaix (1956). His best result at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege was a 4th place from 1952.)
It was his second Ronde-victory after 1989.
Winning the Ronde van Vlaanderen or the Paris-Roubaix is great. But winning them in the same year, that’s something extraordinary.
