One of the most iconic pictures from the modern cycling history is that one of the heavy snowfall on the Gavia Pass on the 14th stage of the Giro d’Italia in 1988. The 120 km long tappa between Chiesa Valmalenco and Bormio became, as the journalist of  La Gazzetta stressedContinue Reading

An unusual spectator following the first stage of the Tour de France in 1926.

This was the first time the races started outside Paris.
The stage between Evian and Mulhouse was 373 km long and Jules Buysse (the brother of that year's race winner Lucien Buysse) crossed the finish line first.

Tonight is the premier of Outlander S5 on the Germ Tonight is the premier of Outlander S5 on the German tv channel VOX. (Yeah I know, the image is from the 4th season)

In the last 8-10 years I didn't really watched tv on the old fashioned way ( I prefer online streaming, and series/movies with original sound) but my mother's cable tv package includes VOX, so I had the chance to look into the German dubbed version of Outlander (but I've seen only the first half of the first ep).

I was expecially curious about Murtagh's German voice. Well, of course, nothing can compare to @duncan.lacroix 's own voice, but I think it was fair enough. (Much better than the Hungarian version, for sure).

On the other hand there is something else, which made me interested to watch the German speaking version of the entire series. As you might know, German language has a grammatical form of honorific speech (as do for example the French and Hungarian languages either) and it's quite exciting to see in which relationship/ situation they use it.
F.e. between Jamie and LJG. Or between Lizzie and Josiah .

I would really see how the translators use (or not) this formula between Claire and most of the characters in the first 2 seasons.

This is my favourite historical photograph. I saw This is my favourite historical photograph.
I saw it first when I was reading a book about Tzar Nicholas II in the mid 1990s. I was mesmerized by the sharpness of the image ( probably this was the first of this kind I've seen about historical persons), by the illusion, that you can really almost look into the eyes of these young women lived many many decades before your time.
On the other hand, looking at this picture, you can't avoid to imply your knowledge about the horribly tragic fate of the Romanov family.
But there is an another reason I think it's an important image -at least for me: it's an important reminder how our life changed since my teenage years. Even when you were a bookworm and also visited library, you could find this kind of pictures quire rarely. Nowadays you can visit countkes websites or follow numerous social media accounts posting historical images considered to be "rare". Seeing them is no more such mesmerizing like it was before internet has become part of our everyday life. )

Well, everyone remember what happened with Chris Froome on the road up to the Mont Ventoux.
But can you remember the winner of the stage?
Yes, it was him. Thomas De Gendt.

#funfactfriday If you grew up in Hungary in the 80 #funfactfriday
If you grew up in Hungary in the 80's, this picture must be very familiar. This is one moment from the intro of the educational science tv show called "Delta" (started in the mid-60's).

The intro with the black&white footages (and the modern electronic music) was quite terrifying. Especially those people walking and walking in the snow.

I guess, I was terrifyed as a little child so much, that this might be the reason why I know so little even about the most important polar expeditions (although I had to learn some basic infos, years, names etc in the school).

Well, at least, I knew so little in the first 40 years of my life, because I became a bit obsessed with the topic during the recent weeks (read some books, watched documentaries and fictions, mostly about the ill-fated Franklin-expedition but, of course, about other events too)

Btw, this famous image is originally from the 1948 movie "Scott of the Antarctic", when Lieutenant Bowers (played by Reginald Beckwith) tells Scott (John Mills) "Aye, aye, Sir"
