Welcome to Anita Petho's road cycling history.
You're currently looking at an old post shared seven years ago
about a Giro d'Italia stage (more precisely the general classification after it) very few people remembers.
I actually do remember that I enjoyed very much the overall victory of Richard Carapaz. I remember there was a stage similar to the route of the Giro di Lombardia (the second Italian one-day race Monunent in Autumn, currently entirely conquered by Tadej Pogacar since 2021), where Carapaz very cleverly pit his wheel on Vincenzo Nibali, the cyclist was the ultime expert of the Giro d'Italia those days, and waited for the right moment to attack at the end.
I remember the season 2019 very well, because that was my last road cycling season when I cared more about the present day races, than the history of road cycling competitions.
During then next few years the dynamics between past and present changed a lot, and I spent more and more time with researching road cycling history. So much that around 2023-2024 I totally lost my connection to the world of today's professional road cycling competitions.
Thus in an odd way, this list of names tells me more than a list of names I would see on any race results.
But I guess, you're not here to scrutinize a race result from 2019. You're probably seraching something new. Or, maybe, paradoxically a newer post about a much older Giro d'Italia edition.
Well, if you are looking for the upcoming Giro d'Italia (between 8 and 31 May 2026) here is the post you might start with:
