Giro d’Italia 2026 Stage 4

After three days in Bulgaria and an additional rest day, Giro d'Italia is finally back on Italian soil.

The peloton is aiming Calabria, the southernmost region of the Italian mainland.

Although Giro d'Italia visited Naples since the very first edition frequently, and Bari was included in the program from time to time, the race went even further south only in 1930.

That was the year when the race started from Sicily for the very first time, and it seemed convenient to ride through also Calabria.

But this fact also reflects on the harsh reality of early road cycling competitons, that only that parts of (mostly Western-)Europe could have been involved in the world of this new sport, where a certain level of well-developed infrastructure already existed.
